Chip the Duck
Who is Chip the Duck?
The legend tells it that Chip was hatched in the reeds lining the shores of Lake Chelan near Manson many years ago. As a duckling, Chip got a small crack in his bill when he became entangled in some plastic trash. Fortunately, a kindly Link bus driver removed it.
Chip, doing what ducks do, imprinted on the kindly Link driver and the Link bus. Soon, Chip had the Route 21 schedule memorized and timed his trips to Manson to coincide with the hourly arrivals.
Undeterred by his differences, Chip befriended the Route 21 Link Transit drivers and became a frequent and looked-for end-of-the line greeter. Sometimes, Chip would even board the bus to check on the driver and passengers. Over time, Chip learned all about public transportation and became Link’s biggest fan.
While Chip may be long gone (who really knows for sure?), his offspring undoubtedly were brought up with the understanding and appreciation for public transit, and today may be seen frequenting the bus stops along the shores of Lake Chelan.
Soon, you will be able to visit with Chip the Duck at a local event, or you may even encounter him riding one of Link’s routes throughout Chelan or Douglas counties.
