Art.Link

ArtLink is a 23-year-old program where Link staff work with third grade students in schools throughout our service area. Each fall, third grade classes are given a short presentation on age-appropriate information about Link Transit. ArtLink is designed to work with third grade common CORE standards in mapping, social studies, and vocabulary. Teachers have been invaluable in helping develop a beneficial curriculum.

Following the presentation, students are encouraged to create an illustration depicting a Link Transit bus, and write something they learned about Link Transit, such as:
• Who owns Link Transit?  (We all do!)
• Identifying “Community” and how the public pays for Link Transit with sales tax
• How to identify “safe strangers.”  (Like Link Transit drivers)
• Learning which counties support Link Transit and what cities are in those counties.

Illustrations are judged by Link Transit staff. In years past, winning illustrations were used on Link’s monthly bus passes. They are now displayed throughout our communities in February. Check back in late January to to find out where they are on display.

Since the program’s inception in 2001, thousands of students in our area have participated in ArtLink. Link Transit has been recognized twice for ArtLink by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Adwheel Awards program.
